Students learn best when they are academically challenged with enriched content presented in a way they can connect with. Ryan quantitatively measures a successful day by how many students share an “I can not believe it’s the end of the day already” sentiment. He is delighted to return to Early Light Academy for a third year. He feels as if ELA has allowed him to truly “hit his stride” as an educator. This school offers Ryan the opportunity to grow as a professional as he is able to sharpen his skills in developing enriching and engaging content daily. In addition, Ryan is consistently challenged with innovative opportunities such as running our Infini-d space simulator, teaching a STEM skill rotation, and working with such an exceptional body of students, families and staff. He believes we are the cutting edge in education as charter schools are meant to be.
Ryan has wanted to be a teacher since he was a middle-school student. He earned his Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Lander University in Greenwood, SC and a Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction from Furman University in Greenville, SC. This is his first year teaching the 6th grade, and he taught the 4th grade for 9 years.
In his off time, he enjoys exploring Utah’s beauty with his wife, Kerri, and dog, Amora, via hiking, mountain biking or 4x4 trailblazing. He also appreciates trout fishing, gardening/landscaping, and playing music.
